Vynfields

Setting
The historic Maranui homestead housing the cellar door has become a much-loved Martinborough landmark since it was transported north from Wellington in 2000. With a lovingly restored, spacious interior, sunny verandas, lavender-lined pathways and park-like gardens, it’s no wonder visitors flock here to soak up the relaxing, rural atmosphere.

Things To Know
In early 2014 Vynfields was purchased by young couple Zinder Zhao and Harry Guo and their extended family. They fell in love with the property and the Martinborough lifestyle and can’t wait to continue the passion and pedigree built up over the years. Planted in 1991, today it is Martinborough’s only fully certified organic and biodynamic vineyard site, with the wines being expertly crafted by neighbour and Geisenheim-graduate winemaker Kai Schubert.

Our Picks
Definitely try the three styles of riesling – classic, dry and the Bliss sparkling style. And definitely don’t leave without tasting the Mad Rooster, a red made from a mysterious, unidentified grape (previously thought to be syrah) found growing in one corner of the vineyard.
