Millton Vineyards & Winery

Setting
The beautifully manicured gardens surrounding the Millton cellar door at Manutuke are indicative of the level of care that goes into all elements of this iconic wine label. With stunning landscaped grounds, mature trees and an olive grove, there are countless spots to enjoy the wines, whether it’s on a beanbag under the gingko tree or at one of the shaded tables around the cellar door.

Things To Know
The Millton brand is world-renowned as a leader in organic wine; it was not only the first in the country to be BioGro Certified Organic, but also the first in the Southern Hemisphere to be Demeter Certified Biodynamic. Since establishing the vineyard 30 years ago, founders James and Annie Millton have remained committed to leaving as little impact on the soil as possible, working with the elements rather than against them and taking guidance from the phases of the moon and planets in their vineyard practices. Wines are produced under three labels – Crazy by Nature, The Millton Vineyard and the ultra-premium Closde Ste Anne. The exceptional grapes for this last label are grown on the vineyard’s hillside slopes. While the cellar door offers platters – artisan cheeses, cured meats and bread, served with preserves made from estategrown produce – visitors are also welcome to bring a picnic.

Our Picks
The Millton Chenin Blanc is regarded as one of the finest examples of the variety outside its origin of the Loire Valley in France. Chardonnay is another highlight, as is the La Cote Pinot Noir.

Plus
Be sure to sample the nonalcoholic Amrita certified organic grape juice – beautifully sweet and concentrated, it is enjoyable on its own or added to your favourite cocktail.
