Ngapuarata Wines

Setting
Just a 30-minute drive from Christchurch and 10km south of Kirwee is Ed Matoe and Yvonne Grant’s lifestyle farm, vineyard and cafe. It’s tiny but there’s so much packed in here. Prepare yourself for the bright purple cafe and Ed’s colourful storytelling during his vineyard tours.

Things To Know
Established in 1993, Ngapuarata is Maori for “blooming of the flower”, hence the floral motif on the label of each of their wines. In addition to tasting the pinot noir, chardonnay and three styles of riesling, you can sample vineyard platters, retro shrimp cocktails or warm your cockles with tender kebabs. On the first Friday of every month there’s an open night for anyone to gather for drinks and snacks from 6pm.

Our Pick
The 2008 Pinot Noir is ageing gracefully and a must-taste.

Plus
Kids, dogs, bikes and everything in between are welcome here – the kids will love the exotic birds in the outdoor aviary and the fluffy pet rabbits.
