Despite being just off SH6, the tranquility of Fromm’s cellar door is palpable. Unpretentious is a word often used to describe the place, although the enthusiasm showed by both cellar door and winery staff is as expressive as the wines you can taste.
Things To Know
Winemakers William Hoare and Hätsch Kalberer (who originates from Switzerland) are dedicated to creating complex wines that reflect the purity of fruit that Marlborough is renowned for. They’ve certainly succeeded in their aim – Fromm’s wines have attained almost cult-like status. The wines are renowned for their ageing ability, as well as their elegance. From the outset, Fromm has implemented organic practices and has been certified organic since 2008.
The Fromm Clayvin Vineyard Pinot Noir is one of the region’s most renowned pinot noirs – try it and you’ll understand why. Also try the La Strada Syrah – a very Old World style of wine that shows Marlborough isn’t too cold for syrah to shine (the 2011 vintage topped Cuisine’s 2014 NZ syrah tasting).
