Ruby Bay Vineyard

Setting
The trek up Pomona Rd is well worthwhile, ending as it does at Ruby Bay’s cellar door. Lush countryside, in the form of rolling hills dotted with sheep, provides the perfect backdrop for the vines. You even get a peek of Ruby Bay itself as it merges into the Tasman Sea. The large cellar door flows off a tiled patio – the ideal spot to take in the view.

Things To Know
The owner of this single-vineyard estate is Andrew Tamplin who, in a former life, was an airline captain. Alongside the chardonnay, riesling, pinot gris and sauvignon blanc, there is also a Captain’s Reserve Pinot Noir, in recognition of Andrew’s former career. Ruby Bay is also one of the very few in Nelson to produce a methode traditionnelle, in the French style.

Our Picks
The riesling is great and you should also try the Captain’s Reserve Pinot Noir.
