Mystery Creek Wines

Setting
You’ll discover this delightful cellar door halfway between Hamilton and Cambridge on the banks of the Waikato River. It’s smart and spacious; cool and breezy in summer, toasty and warm in winter. And it’s big enough to host group tastings and functions. This is rural heartland yet it’s only 12 minutes from Hamilton, and virtually next door to the Hamilton International Airport and Mystery Creek Events Centre. A handy location with views of the river and lush green farmland.

Things to Know
The home vineyard was planted back in 1990 and it’s now supplemented by another vineyard south of Cambridge and one in Marlborough. As well as these, they source grapes from Gisborne, Hawke’s Bay and Central Otago, so the range is extensive covering all major styles including a methode traditionnelle.

Our Pick
Reserve Waikato Chardonnay from the home block is a stylish rendition of the variety combining succulent stone fruit with an elegant infusion of vanillin oak.

Angus Rd Eatery
Previously called The Woodbox, the restaurant has had a rebrand and a refurbishment. The menu features snacks, tapas and wood-fired pizzas, plus well-priced mains including aged Black Angus scotch fillet and wood-roasted chicken. There’s a brunch menu on weekends.
